Diarrhea is a serious problem for patients being treated for cancer, and can be caused by multiple factors including harsh chemotherapy and radiation therapy, antibiotics, stress, anxiety, dietary requirements, and even the cancer itself. Severe diarrhea can delay therapy and lead to dehydration, malnutrition, pain, infections, and disease progression.
With 200,000 to 500,000 cases of new-onset chemotherapy-induced diarrhea (CID) per year, there is clearly a strong need for strategies to control this problem. Ventria Bioscience is currently developing VEN101 for the prevention and treatment of CID.
